Justin- Nice. I met my wife in person the first time at the poetry slams at Kieran's. She used to perform a lot more before two kids and a husband (although I'm not gonna take the blame!)

Just read your hiphop history of Minnesota blog.
First off thank you for breifly mentioning my name as well as some of the others who were strictly about the the art and less about their own notarity with minimal contribution.
I was both deeply involved at street & club dj'ing as well as being a musician and thereafter a full time music producer. Many names like myself took our frustrations with the Mpls scene and simply migrated our vision and talents elsewhere.
I believe we all agree that talent is everywhere and lots of great talent is in Mpls.
However. The biggest thing that hurt the Mpls scene was the lack of understanding or fictious outlook on how the "real" music industry business actually worked. I believe more bands, singers, rappers & musicians could have been successful nationally and worldwide if they had a better understanding and was willing to work hard competitively to make the best records they could possibly make.
The discipline, work ethic, origonality and seriousness was the deciding factor on how far an artist or group could take it. Some people settled for being just locally famous and just did things good enough to apease their family and friends.I consider these people to be more into the hobby of hiphop or a weekend rapper. There was this narrow-minded vision to have yourself sound like someone else thats already out. Listeners would then judge your skills and songs by music they were already accustomed to. "I like your song..You sound just like Snoop Dogg". lol
When origonality and the gamble to simply do something different began to default.
That made it even more difficult for something or someone new from Mpls to hit the scene and get that big break.
Being yourself and being origonal in whatever it is you do is what sets you apart from the rest. Sorry I drifted off subject. But that is what happened to many of the players that played a part of history in the Mpls Hiphop scene.

I can be reached for comment on my myspace page listed above.

Also, let it be known that the Pasta Bar Battles were started by me and my homey Abhijit in 03', and we asked Zach to host.

You should probably include the Soundset Wednesday jams that RSE through in the late 90s. It was the first time that the Twin Cities hip hop scene had a real chance in a large venue, and brought in all elements for the first time no a grand scale under one roof. (Precedes the Celebration of Hiphop by about 5 or 6 years). Also where the Battlecats (my old crew), Brother Ali and a lot of up-and-coming heads got to shine.

Also, the Mighty Fine Cafe is where Headshots was born. That should DEF be on the list.

It's nice seeing this thing come together.
Thanks for including the Pasta Bar.
